Congratulations to Viola Caretti, MD, PhD recipient of the PERF^®-CNS Elterman Research Grant Award and Mauro Caffarelli, MD, recipient of the PERF^®-CNS Shields Research Grant Award.

PERF^®-CNS Elterman Research Grant Award
Dr. Caretti’s project, Decoding sex-specific neutrophil function in neonatal hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy  will investigate the reason for poorer outcomes among males following hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE).

PERF^®-CNS Shields Research Grant Award
Dr.  Caffarelli’s project, Validation of a quantitative electroencephalography index for brain injury recognition and prediction during pediatric extracorporeal life support,  will use quantitative EEG correlate of injury to the nervous system (COIN) index to facilitate detection of beside focal cerebral injury in sedated patients, providing neurophysiological differentiation between brain injury subtypes thereby minimizing delays in stroke diagnosis.
